The Coastal Explorers Seashore Science Course

Join our experienced educators for a two-day seashore adventure at the renowned Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole. Children ages 4, 5, and 6 are invited to explore, discover, and enjoy multi aged seashore activities set within a Montessori teaching environment.
Program Description:
The MBL offers two Coastal Explorers classes during the summer:
Sea Urchins will focus on invertebrate life at the seashore, including sea stars, mollusks, and crustaceans.
Bluefish will focus on marine vertebrate life, including fish, whales, and coastal birds.
In both classes, children will learn about native species at visits to the Woods Hole Science Aquarium and the MBL Marine Resources Center, and will participate in related hands-on art projects and musical activities. Classes may be taken in any sequence.

Each class will be held from 10 AM - 2 PM in the MBL Club, 100 Water Street, Woods Hole. Enrollment is limited to 20 children per session.
Sea Urchins:
- Session I - June 28 & 30
- Session II - July 12 & 14
- Session III - July 26 & 28
Bluefish:
- Session I - July 5 & 7
- Session II - July 19 & 21
- Session III - August 2 & 4
Sea Urchin / Bluefish Combo Session:
- Session I - August 9 & 11

About Our Instructors:
Loesje Creeden, lead instructor, is fascinated by the marine environment and has been teaching at both the pre-primary and elementary levels for more than 30 years. She earned her Bachelors degree in Elementary Education from Notre Dame College in New Hampshire, and has studied at the post-graduate level at several universities. Loesje is a certified teacher in both Massachusetts and New Hampshire. In recent years she has devoted herself to Montessori education, and is fully trained and certified in the pre-primary level by the American Montessori Society and Director II level by the Department of Early Education and Care. For many years she was a teacher/naturalist at Green Briar Nature Center in Sandwich where she acquired her passion and reverence for the outdoor environment and our fragile Cape Cod habitats.
Christine MacDonald-Burke, assistant instructor, is currently working on her Bachelors degree in Elementary Education, and training in Montessori education. She is certified at the teacher level from the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care and has an Associates Degree from Quincy College. Christine has worked in various Montessori schools in the Pre-primary, Elementary I, and Elementary II levels and has also worked with children in the infant and toddler programs. Christine is currently a Lead Aftercare Teacher and substitute teacher at The Bridgeview Montessori School in Sagamore, MA.
